Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a prominent figure in the Southeast, has denounced the assaults and alleged deaths of Igbos during the Lagos election.

There were multiple instances of Igbo people being harassed and intimidated during the general elections in the state between February 25 and March 18.

The process was sabotaged by thugs in many polling places, especially in areas where Igbos and other Labour Party, LP supporters are concentrated.

Iwuanyawu responded on Saturday by saying the Southeaterners will defy any additional attempts to repress them or kill them.

The entrepreneur, who is regarded as one of the wealthiest people in Nigeria, spoke during a town hall event held at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

The meeting was a part of the celebrations for Charles Soludo's first year as governor of Anambra State.

"I want to let our community in Lagos know that I convened a meeting of the Ohanaeze council of elders on Wednesday. We also convey the developments in Lagos.

"I want to let you know that we made a decision to never, ever again allow someone to kill an innocent Igbo person.

"We're all going to fight this individual, we're all going to fight this person. Never once more!

"We are in Nigeria and have financial interests there. We won't give in to the pressure of being told to leave since we have no plans to do so.

I want Lagos residents to understand that there is no war going on between us and Yorubas.

The (violent) Yorubas are merely rascals in politics. We'll take care of them, he said.

Iwuanyanwu also revealed that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary General had been instructed by elders to form a commission of inquiry into the Lagos situation.

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, and Peter Obi, Soludo's predecessor, were among the luminaries present at the Awka ceremony.
